We have just learnt that there are formal and informal way of greetings in German language and also it is differentiated by the conjugation of the verb.
To start with, you should know that each and every verb in German language will get conjugated according to the pronouns in the sentence.
Ich, du, er, es, sie - singular forms
and
wir, ihr, sie - plural forms.
In addition to this, you would have also noticed that there is this same word "sie" used to say she, they and you(formal) in german language. Out of these "Sie" with a capital S (always, even when it comes in the middle of a sentence) is used to represent the formal way.
We will look only after ich, du and Sie form in this blog as an introduction to the conjugation part.
Pronouns Verb: heißen
Ich heiße ( + 'e')
du heißt ( + 'st')
Sie heißen ( +'en')
Here, I have taken the verb heißen as an example, which is used to ask/tell the names of people. There are certain rules to conjugate a verb.
Step 1 : Remove 'en' from the verb ending.
heißen ==> heiß (This is the main word)
Step 2 : According to the pronouns and its corresponding rules mentioned in the table, the verb gets conjugated.
ich heiß + e ==> ich heiße
du heiß + st ==> du heißt
Sie heiß + en ==> Sie heißen
You may find it difficult to understand, but it's just the beginning..Bitte langsam!!
We will learn the remaining pronouns in my next blog..
Bis dann!! Tschüss!! 😊
